Advocacy Training Session 2: Using Your Voice for Food Systems Change

Interested in engaging in food and farm advocacy at the Iowa State Capitol? Join us for a three-part Advocacy Training Series designed to prepare participants for our upcoming Day on the Hill.

These one-hour, lunchtime workshops will walk through how advocacy works in Iowa, how to use your voice effectively, and what to expect during our coordinated day at the Capitol. Whether you are new to advocacy or looking to feel more confident showing up, this series is designed to meet you where you are.

Registration includes all three sessions, and we strongly encourage attending the full series to get the most out of the experience and build relationships with other participants.

Session 1: Iowa Government 101 – How a Bill Becomes Law
Learn the basics of Iowa’s legislative process and how decisions move from idea to law.

Session 2: Storytelling 101 – Using Your Voice for Food Systems Change
Explore how personal stories and lived experience can shape policy conversations and strengthen advocacy efforts.

Session 3: Advocacy 101 – Navigating Our Day at the Capitol
Get oriented to the logistics of our Day on the Hill, including schedules, expectations, and how we will show up together.
